We did our second day of touching activities yesterday. We started with our warm up, including more practice of the number 1 and the letter a. She was even able to draw a few "a"s on her own without tracing! I was super impressed! :)
(Here's what Sydney does while we have school until she naps. :) )
We read Millie Moo, since it was slightly textured and we could talk more about how things feel when we touch them. (She did a little unit on this when she was in daycare, so she was already familiar with touch words).
Here's her "a" book, which she finished coloring. We talked again about the "a" words and the way "a" sounds.
Then on to our sensory activities. We started with Oobleck. I tried to get the Dr. Seuss book about Oobleck, but it was checked out already from our library. Oobleck is made of cornstarch and water and is that substance that is a solid when you put pressure on it and a liquid when you relax. She LOVED it.
Then we made cloud dough. (Flour and baby oil). Super soft to touch, but can be molded into shapes. We spent a good 30 mins with me building shapes so she could smash them. Don't you love her facial expression in this next picture??? (SHe is looking at the snowman I made in the corner of the pan).
Then we got out some kitchen utensils so she could make shapes and sculptures.
We even made the letter A!!
After I was done, I got out a baking dish full of rice, gave her some measuring spoons and utensils and let her go to town. She played for 2 WHOLE HOURS. It was incredible! She seriously had the greatest time playing and it gave me time to play with Syd uninterrupted and make dinner! And even though I will probably be finding rice with my feet on the kitchen floor for weeks, it was worth it! And Brooklyn keeps asking for more school! (I put the balloons filled with objects from Mon and this rice dish in our special "school toys" so she could play with them again. It's kind of like our "Discovery Center". I used to have one at school and I would rotate things through. I plan to do that at home so Brooklyn can keep exploring the things we are learning at school on her own.)
